’Tis the [fig] season here in the Lowcountry so why not make the best of it in an Old Fashioned?

Next up on the #FestiveOldFashioned series with @oldforester is the talented, Meagan Cheek (@meaganvision) with a fig inspired Old Fashioned that is as local as it it is seasonal. Check out his details below.

“Figs, allspice, brown sugar, maple syrup, and of course bourbon... what flavors could be more fitting for the holiday season? I wanted to feature figs because they often get a bad rap (pun intended). For this representation of the OG Old Fashioned I have chosen Old Forester 1920 for its warming winter flavors of cherry, vanilla, and graham cracker sweetness. The spirit is then infused at a low heat with dried figs rolled in a bit of brown sugar. Finish with a touch of allspice dram, maple syrup, and cherry bark vanilla bitters. Garnish with a fresh halved fig nestled in a big beautiful peel of winter grapefruit. If you don’t know, now you know!”

Yeahhh, this is dangerously easy to drink.

I’ve been wanting to make this since y’all gave me the idea a few weeks ago. Huge thanks to those who gave me tips along the way, this was definitely a learning process and well worth the wait. Jumping on the pickle margarita bandwagon… c’mon in, we’ve got room 🥒

Yeah I know it’s been done but had to try it for myself. In theory it works right? You put a salt (brine) and lime (acid) in your margaritas right? So why not add pickle juice which adds those elements as well. I used a spicy pickle brine here and it was incredible. Note that I used the new @lalospirits high proof here, a whopping 2oz of it, but the spec below made for a well balanced, spicy, sour margarita that you’ll love… unless you hate pickles that is, in which case, we can’t be friends anymore.

What happens when you combine TWO of Puerto Rico’s most iconic cocktails? The Piña Colada is arguably Puerto Rico’s most famous contribution to the cocktail world. Created sometime during the 1950s, its exact origins are often debated. But we’d all be remiss if the infamous Coquito didn’t enter the conversation, which origin is ubiquitous with Puerto Rican culture - after all, there’s an entire DAY dedicated to this iconic drink. I think we can all agree the best version is made with Puerto Rico’s legendary rum, Ron del Barrilito.
