Barrel Aged Boulevardier
Have you ever wondered how to barrel age a cocktail at home? I’m excited to once again #partner up with Cooperscraft to show y’all how to do so! The barrel aging technique is not only a tried and true way to batch a cocktail, it’s also a great way to add a subtle toasty flavor while mellowing a cocktail to create a perfect balance of flavors. The instructions are simple and the hardest part will be waiting for the cocktail to age without wanting to have more than one sample. .
Note that not all barrels are created equal, so the recipe is split into equal parts instead of exact measurements. Make sure to read the barrel preparations from your manufacturer before the barrel aging process as those instructions can vary per manufacturer as well. Enjoy!
ingredients:
1 part Barrel Reserve
1 part Sweet Vermouth
1 part Campari
tools:
instructions:
Combine equal parts #CoopersCraft bourbon, Campari, sweet vermouth into your barrel. Make sure all orifices of the barrel are sealed tightly and shake lightly. Set aside for up to one month (depending on your size of barrel or your taste). Make sure to taste every 5 days or so until you’re happy with the flavor, my 5L barrel took about one month - just for comparison.
.
Note: Be sure to bottle the contents of the barrel once you’re happy with the flavor profile - alcohol tends to evaporate at room temperature so this prevents your delicious cocktail from depleting at a faster rate.
.
To serve: Add 3-4oz in a mixing glass with ice. Stir for 10 seconds. Strain and pour over a crystal clear ice cube. Express with your garnish of choice - here I used a dehydrated orange wheel. Serve and Enjoy!
