The Mint Julep cocktail recipe is a traditional, from-scratch build of the south’s most infamous warm-weather cocktail.

The History of the Mint Julep

The origins of the mint julep are shrouded in mystery, with early references dating back to the 18th century. Believed to have been born in the southern United States, this iconic cocktail gained popularity for its refreshing blend of mint, sugar, water, and bourbon over crushed ice. Over the years, the mint julep became synonymous with elegance and leisure, often enjoyed at social gatherings and horse racing events. Today, this timeless drink continues to charm cocktail enthusiasts with its simple yet sophisticated allure.



 

ingredients:

  • 2 parts Bourbon

  • ¾ part simple syrup

  • 8-10 Mint Leaves

  • 3 Sprigs of Mint (Garnish)

instructions:

Pour liquid ingredients with mint leaves in the Julep cup. Muddle gently.  Add crushed or pebble ice over top of the cocktail.  Garnish with properly ‘slapped’ mint sprigs to release the oils. Add a julep straw (optional).  Serve and enjoy!
